If you're an Irish citizen then you are most welcome to buy a policy while already travelling...no problem at all!
BUT if you're NOT a citizen of Ireland (even if you're a permanent resident) then unfortunately it's not possible to buy a policy while already travelling.
As a citizen, you can buy a policy even if you’re already travelling, working, living or studying in another country.
If you buy a policy away from home, there is a waiting period of 3 days (72 hours) before the insurance takes effect. In the event of serious injury in connection with an accident, you will be covered from the date cover commenced subject to the accident being witnessed and verified by an independent third party.
You can also keep buying more cover while away from home to extend your trip by signing into your World Nomads membership as long as you extend it before the policy end date (before midnight Australian Eastern time) and the same product is available.
You must be within your country of residence to be able to buy a policy. If you are an Irish permanent resident travelling or living away from home in another country, you cannot be covered under this policy.
You should read the policy wording for full details on your eligibility to buy a policy and when cover starts and ends.
Important note for policyholders who purchased a policy before 1 November 2018 GMT
You can buy more cover under your existing policy through your World Nomads membership as long as you extend it before the policy end date (before midnight GMT) and only up until a maximum total trip duration of 550 days. You can also buy a new policy, however it will be under new terms and conditions of coverage.
Note: For policies purchased before 1 Nov 2018, your World Nomads policy is backed by Millstream.
